Lutha has his home and family!

altFrom the moment they met our puppy, Janice and Paul fell in love with Lutha, and he with them. With outstanding dedication they prepared their property, their indoor environment and their lives for the addition of a big, bouncy, gangly pup entering their world. In-between getting everything ready they enthusiastically maintained the bond by taking him to training classes and coming on walks with our other homeless dogs.

Thank you to Heather for rescuing Lutha, to the Dog Protection Society New Zealand for fostering him, to Colleen for assessing and training him and to all the staff and volunteers who were part of keeping him happy, healthy, fit and socialised. Lutha has a wonderful future ahead of him.

Lucky Lutha, lucky Janice and Paul.

Our beautiful Posh has passed away

altWe were shocked and grieved when our beautiful Posh passed away this week. In March her comprehensive vet check indicated that she was in perfect health other than having some arthritis in her hind legs and spine. An autopsy revealed that our lovely girl died from heart failure caused by the rupture of a rare tumour at the base of her heart. http://www.marvistavet.com/html

To read about Posh’s life please go to the HAPPY ENDINGS story on our website

We are very grateful to all of the wonderful people who gave their time and love to ensure our ‘community dog’ had a joyful retirement. We would especially like to thank Dog Protection Society New Zealand for giving Posh permanent foster care; Greg at Bayvet for carrying out an unexpected autopsy at a significantly reduced price; and her sponsor, Vanessa, for never failing to provide for Posh’s financial needs.

Most of all we are indebted to Poshie for reminding us to embrace life with boundless enthusiasm and for displaying huge appreciation for even the simplest of life’s pleasures. We cherished every moment with our precious old girl.

Ban Rodeo in New Zealand

Rodeos subject animals to fear, stress, risk of injury and death for no reason other than human entertainment. Due to the suffering it causes, decent people around the globe want it banned outright - New Zealanders included.

Almost 10,000 people have already signed the petition which will be presented to the NZ House of Representatives. Please join them in banning this animal abuse. Thank you!

Cuddly Birdie seeks a cat-free home

altAn affectionate and beautiful young cat had been lost or abandoned so she started living in a tree. The kind woman who lived at the property fed the stray for four months while she tried to find the original guardians. When there were no responses, she named this cuddly tree-dweller Birdie and decided to adopt her. Sadly, although Birdie loves human attention as often as possible, she will not put up with other felines - and attacked all three of the woman’s resident cats.

Not knowing what else to do, the lady booked Birdie into a vet clinic for a lethal injection! Fortunately she also sent us a desperate e-mail. We are very grateful that our fosterer Monique could take Birdie at such short notice, but as she too has resident cats Birdie needs a home of her own.

The vet estimates that Birdie is about 3 years old. She is spayed, micro-chipped, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms and looking for a wonderful home.
