When their vaccinations and other requirements have been completed, they will be ready for very loving homes.

Part-time Contractor Position Available

We are so sad to be losing Jess (pictured with rescue pup Wombat) after her two years of fantastic service with us. She leaves an opening for a part-time assistant. Please e-mail your inquiries, cover letter and CV to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

If you love all animals regardless of species and don’t mind getting your hands dirty, this might be the job for you!

We are a small, but active and well known organisation in Browns Bay on the North Shore of Auckland. We are offering 11 hours of paid work at minimum wage beginning April 2019.

Assistant tasks include: Cleaning (lots of that), animal handling and interaction, dog walking, unpacking and stacking products, transporting goods or animals, relocating enclosures, office duties, creating posters and adverts, organising fundraisers, assisting at animal-related presentations and events, photography, distributing flyers, volunteer training, and any other tasks that free up the trustees to focus on their various workloads.

Training may be provided before the start date – while you are volunteering.

Our ideal applicant will:

  • Be available two non-consecutive weekdays per week
  • Have a calm demeanour around difficult animals
  • Have excellent attention to detail
  • Be good at following instructions as well as using initiative
  • Be fit, strong and healthy
  • Be reliable, punctual and honest
  • Be okay cleaning animal vomit, faeces, urine, blood, etc.
  • Have good computer and Facebook skills
  • Have a strong command of the English language
  • Be able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Be able to cope with repetitive tasks
  • Be able to commit to a minimum of two years’ work
  • Be a non-smoker
  • Have a full driver’s licence and a dog-friendly vehicle
  • Be willing to appear in photos on our website, social media, etc.
  • Be prepared to volunteer in addition to the 11 hours of paid work
  • Only bring vegan food into our home-based shelter

There are plenty of perks to the job. You’re being paid for what is often a voluntary role, you are around lots of animals all day, and you play a crucial role in rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing animals in strife.

We are a small vegan organisation. You will be incredibly appreciated and valued, almost like family.

Professional training for Daisy

Today rescue dog, Daisy, had her first professional training session (on Orewa beachfront) with our dog walking volunteer Lydie and Sacha from DOGlife NZ. It was a great success!

We currently have five dogs who could do with some extra help before their adoptions. If you would like to be part of their happy endings, please consider funding training for one or more of them. To make a donation please visit http://test.animalrehoming.co.nz/help-us/donate

Please bring your friends, families and dogs. Come to Milford (Auckland) to meet Sassy, Bandit, Bear, Amber, Odin, Sammy and Paige... among others of our beautiful rescue dogs who need loving homes.

We can't wait to meet you there... and to reunite with some of our adopted dogs.

Abandoned kittens need loving homes

These four beautiful kittens were left even more vulnerable in an industrial area when their pure white mother was killed on the road. Witnesses will never erase the heartbreaking image of her milk flowing onto the street while her kittens stared on, open-eyed with fear.

Kind business owners had been feeding two adult cats there and, after this tragedy, immediately sought help for the kittens and the remaining adult.

With one of our humane traps in hand, Pixie's Animal Rescue did a fantastic job of capturing these beautiful kittens and the adult cat. They exhausted themselves as they clocked up almost 800km travelling back and forth with the waifs as they were trapped. Kudos to our friends and colleagues at Pixies for saving their lives.

The four female kittens have been at our Auckland shelter for taming and care for three weeks now. They have been twice wormed and treated for fleas, and volunteer Wendy has named them Cassie, Fleur, Darcie and Gemma.

As soon as we have had them spayed and micro-chipped, we will be accepting applications for gentle, traffic safe homes for these little girls.

If you would like to be considered for their adoption, please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Please visit our donation page if you can help us with their upcoming vet bill of $845.60. Thank you so much! http://test.animalrehoming.co.nz/help-us/donate
