When teenagers Samantha and her friends Ibrahim, Troy and Billy rescued abandoned kittens on Tuesday night, they named the 11-week-old brothers Simba and George.
These Good Samaritans are pictured with the precious kittens whose lives they undoubtedly saved. They should be very proud of themselves for their quick and compassionate actions! We certainly are!

Our volunteer, Samantha, was at Sherwood Park in Browns Bay with her friends at about 8.30pm on Tuesday night, when a white van pulled into the car park. It wasn't until it drove away that they realized two beautiful fluffy kittens had just been dumped.
The friends quickly gathered the kitties into their arms, contacted us and searched the area widely for any litter-mates. Nearby residents were alerted to the possibility that other cats may have been abandoned. This is teenagers at their best! Well done guys! You're awesome!

NOTE: If you live near the Sherwood shops on Auckland's North Shore, please keep an eye out for any kittens or perhaps an unknown mother cat.
Please private message us if you know someone with a white van who may have abandoned these vulnerable babies in a popular park for dog walkers. Animal abuse and abandonment can be a part of domestic violence. Any leads to the perpetrator will be treated in confidence.
Wombat had a cruel start to life when he, his mother and his six siblings were left in a pen to die at the perimeter of a rural property. Fortunately five puppies survived and were rescued.
Regardless of his traumatic beginning, this sweet Collie X Whippet pup has a lovely, easy-going nature and no behavioural issues. Wombat will soon turn 7-months-old and is ready and waiting for a home where he will be taken to training classes and cherished for the rest of his life.
More than anything else Wombat loves cuddles. He also enjoys a variety of walking venues, running on beaches, playing with other dogs and going for trips in the car.
Wombat is neutered, micro-chipped, registered, fully vaccinated and flea & worm treated.
This friendly boy would be a suitable companion for an individual, a couple or a family.
If you would like to apply for Wombat’s adoption please e-mail your expression of interest to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
If you miss out on Wombat, please know that we have several other pups (and adult dogs) waiting for you...

Click on the photo below to ask Government to ban the public sale of fireworks.
Although humans sustain burns, injuries, irritation, sleeplessness, confrontations with neighbours, fear and damage to property; it is animals - both domestic, homeless and wild who most markedly suffer fireworks.
Many animals go missing, sustain injuries and suffer terror in the week preceding Guy Fawkes and for several weeks following it... with another huge influx of fireworks around New Year's Eve and during private celebrations at any time throughout the year (due to the hoarding of fireworks sold in November).
Animal Re-homing would like to see an outright ban on this fear-inducing frivolity. Even one night of public fireworks displays will unnecessarily terrorize the animals within visual and hearing vicinity.
In the absence of a complete fireworks ban, we will welcome a change in law that stops the sale of fireworks to clubs or members of the public.
