No dog deserves the loneliness and misery of being chained or caged for life. Imagine being a little puppy on a chain who stays on it until he dies of illness, hypothermia, heatstroke, starvation, accidental hanging, neglect or old age.

Humans and animals alike suffer burns and habitat fires, hedgehogs die agonising deaths in bonfires, animals are terrified, go missing and become injured in their flight.

Over the years we have rescued and rehabilitated many hedgehogs suffering from mange or whose wounds are maggot infested. With initial vet treatment and intensive care, they generally make excellent recoveries.

We do not release recovered hedgehogs into the wild as they may be intentionally trapped or poisoned. Instead, we are looking for safe and securely fenced homes on private properties (suburban included) where there are no dogs, rat, slug or snail bait to kill them.
