Please don't support this cruel industry by betting or attending racing events.
Yet another two lives were claimed in Aotearoa New Zealand yesterday.
Today sweet Marley, one of our palliative care cats, passed to the next world.
Saying goodbye never gets any easier.
Rest peacefully cuddly girl. You were so loved and such a pleasure to care for...
We received the following lovely letter from the man who adopted Marley and her daughter from us 7 years ago. He entrusted Marley to us for her end-of-life care. Thank you for loving her as deeply as we do, Richard.
"Hullo Linda,
Such a sad afternoon yesterday to have our hopes for poor Marley dashed and have to part from her. Life can be so cruel. The only consolation is that without your selfless intervention it could have been so much worse.
Mere words aren't enough to express my gratitude for your love and devotion to her, and for your support and kindness to me. I know you'll understand that, much as I'd prefer to express these feelings in person it would be beyond me; even writing this is difficult enough.
It was a lucky day for Marley when you came into her life, and at least she was blessed with a good home with me for the remainder of it.
Your generous offer to bury Marley in due course has made that aspect a little less difficult. It seems so much more respectful than the alternatives.
In the past I've always dealt alone with losing beloved cats, so your love and support yesterday were all the more precious. With love, Richard".

Many thanks to Browns Bay local, Maryann, for contacting us about yet another narcotic affected bird.
She nearly drove over this little one, who she named Percy, because he was comatose in the Fruit World car park.
Maryann had read about the urgency to identify the Browns Bay bird-killer on the community pages, so she knew to keep Percy in a dark, warm place until we could collect him tonight. If only everyone was so kind. Thank you Maryann (pictured).
Please check back tomorrow to see whether Percy survives the night. Where one bird is affected there will be others. Yet another affected bird was found by a local resident on Inverness Road yesterday.
Please be vigilant for unwell birds at all times when visiting central Browns Bay... and, to prevent secondary poisoning, please keep a close eye on your dogs, cats, and toddlers.
Many thanks to BROWNS BAY, NORTH SHORE, NZ (Original 11 years) and Browns Bay, North Shore, NZ for keeping the community in the loop about the ongoing killing of the avian population.
If anyone has evidence of the culprit(s), please make a written report to the Browns Bay Community Constable and send us an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

AUCKLAND CBD. AOTEA SQUARE
THIS SATURDAY 26th APRIL. 12 NOON
MARCH TO KEEP THE BAN. JOIN US
Under the previous government, Kiwis fought hard and succeeded in banning cruel live animal export by sea.
The current government intends to overturn the ban and resume the transportation of animals on gruelling, weeks' long sea voyages to destinations with little to no welfare regulations.
It is with good reason they are known as "Death Ships" as many animals die horrific deaths, not only at their destinations, but also while at sea.
Car pooling is available from our shelter in Browns Bay at 11am... or we'll see you there at 12pm.
Please message or email if you want to travel with us or to provide a driver and/or vehicle. Thank you for bringing friends with you.
