Maxie is looking for love

maxie-face-closeupIntroducing Maxie…who is an affectionate 8-year-old Fox Terrier x Staffy.

Sadly, due to a marriage breakdown, we are seeking a loving home for this confused little girl who enjoys going for walks and having her tummy rubbed while lying in our arms.

Maxie, who is especially drawn to children, has lived with cats and gets along well with dogs and other animals. She is currently about 16kg so her new caregivers will need to help her to reach a healthy goal weight of 12kg.

Her previous caregiver says “Maxie loves cuddles, being scratched & massaged and playing ball. She needs a happy and affectionate home”.

Maxie is staying at Pixie's Doggie Hotel in Auckland until we find her an ideal home. Thank you so much Pixies!

If you believe you could provide this dear little girl with a wonderful life and plenty of human company, we would love to hear from you.

Tomorrow is New Years Day

Tomorrow is New Years Day - the day when animals suffer annually at the Warkworth Rodeo.

Please join the crowd of peaceful protesters outside the Warkworth Showgrounds for a one hour vigil from 11-12noon. Wear a black top, signage will be provided. Contact us if you need a ride from Auckland. See you there!

Pumpkin and Sesame are both girls!

Every time we rescue chicks, we hope against all odds that they will be hens. 50% of the time they are not and we then have the almost impossible task of finding safe and loving homes for little cockerels - sadly, roosters are the most unwanted animal we work with.

We were dreading hearing the gurgling (but very cute) sounds of juvenile practise crows when Pumpkin laid her first egg - amidst plenty of clamour. A week later Sesame quietly followed suit and we were delighted to discover their eggs side by side in the nesting box.

These wee girls have been lovingly raised at our Auckland shelter for 5 months and have developed a deep trust in us. They must be adopted into a home where they are more than egg laying machines, more than breeders and more than garden decorations. We expect Pumpkin and Sesame to be welcomed as cherished companions and family members.

If you have a wonderful setup for these good friends that is safe from dogs, hawks and other predators and if you will spend time interacting with them, we would like to hear from you.

We would also like to hear from you if you can offer a safe haven to 1-100 roosters on your rural property.
