FOUR INNOCENT DOGS ON DEATH ROW
So many beautiful dogs are killed in pounds when their caregivers don’t bother collecting
them and no-one offers them a home within the usual 7 day holding period. If you
are thinking of saving the life of a dog, please don’t look any further than shelters
and rescue agencies.
The four dogs below have no future unless immediate interest is shown in them. For
a release fee of $195.00 the dogs may be adopted into approved homes. For this minimal
cost, they will be de-sexed, micro-chipped, registered and will have had their first
vaccination. Please go to the links provided for more photographs and to contact
the Northern Animal Shelter. Please let me know if you apply to adopt any of these
hapless creatures...
BONNIE
Bonnie’s breeding has yet to be determined, but it is thought this 7-9 month girl
may have some Boxer and Great Dane genes. She is a strong, lean girl who is very
playful and gets along well with other dogs. Tragically, her time in the facility
is up, so please apply quickly if her life is to be saved.

REBA
Reba is just the cutest looking 10-month-old Heeler cross who stands just a little
taller than a Labrador. He loves company so would suit a home where there is someone
with him most of the time.
Reba is very affectionate and has quickly learned how to walk on a lead since his
arrival at the pound.

YOUNG JARVIS URGENTLY NEEDS A HAPPY HOMELIFE
The mother of this gorgeous 15-month-old boy was a purebred British Bulldog. Although
it’s uncertain, his father is thought to be an American Staffordshire Terrier. Jarvis
has lived with his current family since he was 10-weeks-old, but now urgently needs
to be re-homed.
He is no longer getting the company, exercise or training that he needs and, due
to a house move, he must leave the new rental property ASAP. Although he is loved,
Jarvis is lonely and unstimulated...and his lifestyle can’t be improved in the foreseeable
future.
Weighing in at 25kg and being a strong, muscular boy, he would not be suitable for
young children, frail or elderly people - because he may knock them over in his
playfulness or with a flick of his tail.
He loves to be taken for walks and being an energetic breed, this would need to
be at least a once daily routine. Lots of suburban exercise or a rural family would
suit him. Although he is dominant with other dogs, he thoroughly enjoys playful
interaction when the hierarchy has been established. Jarvis would enjoy having a
canine playmate for company if his new caregivers work full time.
This friendly dog would benefit from some professional training or to be adopted
by experienced dog people who use gentle, consistent techniques. His love of food
would be a great help in this regard.
Up until now, Jarvis hasn’t been allowed in the house although he would love to
share in the indoor home life of his new caregivers. At every opportunity he joins
his current family in the office garage so that he may be rewarded with some cuddles
and affection. To quote his caregiver, “He needs to go to someone who will love
him and care for him and who will keep him safe”.
Jarvis is neutered, registered, micro-chipped and up to date with his vaccinations,
flea and worm treatments. His teeth are in great condition.
If you have a fully and securely fenced property and are prepared to put in the
time and love to give Jarvis some basic or professional training, I look forward
to hearing from you.
He will suit a single person, a couple or a family with older children to give him
the attention he craves.
I look forward to a particularly happy ending for this handsome boy! Thank you.
SHELBY SEEKS A BETTER LIFE
This sweet young Lab X Pointer was found thin and wandering with her litter of pups
- who have now been adopted
At just 11-months-old Shelby has twice spent time in a dog pound, but has now been
rescued & spayed and is in wonderful foster care in Auckland. She has been having
professional training and when she has gained some weight and confidence, she will
be available for adoption.
Shelby’s coat is now beginning to shine and she is wagging her tail. I believe she
will be a wonderful companion for the right person or family.
If you would like to offer this sweet natured girl a home where she will never again
know deprivation, I look forward to your application.
More information and photographs will be available soon...
ADULT SHIH TSU NEEDS AN ADORING HOME
Weighing in at 6.5kg, Oscar is a precious little bundle. Sadly, his caregivers are
unable to take him with them when they go overseas and tell me “he just really needs
someone to love and take care of him”. X-rays have confirmed that he was born with
a misshapen front leg so he eats Hills Science J/d for joint health to ward off
arthritis.
Perhaps because of his leg, Oscar is not particularly active, although there are
times when he really enjoys a lead walk...so he should continue to be offered at
least one walk a day. He also has moments of madness when he will encourage you
to play fetch in the lounge with a favourite toy or when he will race around the
garden barking with joy. He particularly likes squeaky toys.
Shih Tsu’s have long coats which require regular professional grooming if their
caregivers don’t keep the hair short themselves. Oscar’s caregivers have purchased
electric shears for this purpose and manually trim his facial hair with scissors.
It’s recommended that his eyes are wiped with warm water on a cotton wool pad to
discourage dermatitis. He stoically tolerates these maintenance sessions and his
regular shampoos...although they are not his favourite pastimes.
Although Oscar is more of a couch potato than a craver of attention, he will greet
you warmly when you come home and, when he’s in the mood, he will climb onto your
lap or snuggle up beside you for some affection. Oscar is very much an indoor dog
who has outdoor access through a dog door when no-one is at home. A similar situation
would be ideal.
A very endearing physical trait is Oscar’s overshot lower jaw. Because of this,
his tongue is almost always cheekily poking out of his mouth.
Oscar is neutered, registered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and flea & worm treated.
His teeth are fine, having last been de-scaled and polished in mid-2009. He eats
T/d twice weekly to keep his teeth in good order.
Oscar would suit an attentive adult home or one with older children. Youngsters
and large dogs may accidentally hurt him with boisterous play. He is fine with family
cats, but may howl if he spots an unknown feline. He is curious about other dogs
and a bit nervous of them too.
If you have a fully fenced property, are in a position to finance Oscar’s special
diet & care requirements and if you can offer this little fellow a warm home with
plenty of love, I very much look forward to your application. Thank you.
XANDER WOULD PREFER COMPANY MOST OF THE DAY PLEASE
When I visited little Xander and Carolyn at their West Auckland home, the love between
them was undeniable. Before she was confined to a wheelchair, Carolyn rescued him
as a pup from death row at a dog pound. That was 8 years ago and he has been her
beloved companion ever since.
Because she lives alone, Carolyn is finding it increasingly difficult to care for
Xander, to stop him from running off when she needs to treat his skin and she feels
sad that he isn’t having the walks he so enjoys. With a heavy heart she has asked
me to find him a home where he will be absolutely cherished, walked and played with
every day and where the new caregiver will be dedicated to helping him with his
skin allergies.
Weighing in at just 10kg, this Fox Terrier X needs a home where he will again have
company most of the time. Standing at about knee height, Xander is a lively and
interested little fellow who likes to play and endearingly stand on his hind legs
to beg for treats. He is predominantly black with a white flash down his chest and
over his paws.
As he approaches his senior years, the grey hair is cutely appearing around his
muzzle and eyebrows. Xander is neutered, registered, vaccinated, micro-chipped,
worm and flea treated. He was once bitten by a dog and has a pin in his back right
leg. When I took him for a walk, there was no sign of any discomfort and when I
broke into a run, Xander was very happy to playfully increase the pace.
He walks well on a leash and, in my opinion, is just a dear little fellow. Xander
has lived with two cats and is very sociable with other dogs.
In Carolyn’s words, Xander is “...very intelligent
with a gentle, affectionate nature. He will jump up on to a lap for cuddles and
enjoys exercise. He needs someone who is either at home a lot or able to take him
to work. Also someone who is physically fit and able to exercise him regularly or
has someone who can.
His new caregivers must be happy to let him come inside and sleep indoors at night.
He would be good with gentle children or another dog. Basically, he is a sociable
dog who would enjoy the company of anyone who loves animals..”.
If you have a fenced and gated property which is at least 2 metres high, if you
are home most of the time and if you are able walk Xander and make him the centre
of your universe, then I very much look forward to your application. Thank you.
